A team of Nepali writers have returned home after participating in the Nepal-India Poetic Conclave held at Bijanbari in Darjeeling. The Conclave featured 17 poets from India and Nepal who performed their poetry alongside musical and dance performances.
A team of Nepali writers have returned home after participating in the Nepal-India Poetic Conclave held at Bijanbari in Darjeeling. The Conclave featured 17 poets from India and Nepal who performed their poetry alongside musical and dance performances.
Organised by Jara Foundation of Nepal and hosted by Bijanbari-based Pratibha Prerana Parishad and Sikkim-based Chiya Kavita, the event was the first international literary event ever organised in Bijanbari.
Speaking at the event, Matrika Pokharel, member of the Nepal Academy said, “Darjeeling and Sikkim have always played a big role in the enrichment of Nepali literature, language and culture.” He added, “I am heartened by how the cultures of these places seamlessly blend with one another.”
Pokharel’s view was seconded by critic Mahesh Paudyal who said, “The hills of Darjeeling and Sikkim have inspired so much of Nepali literature and culture.” Talking of organic connectivity through folk music, he added, “Leela Lekhan, Tesro Aayam, Kinara Lekhan, and Chiya Kavita among others are dimensions that were originally introduced to the treasury of Nepali literature from Sikkim and Darjeeling.”
Organisers from the Jara Foundation plan to organise many more events that can bring writers based in Nepal, India, and other parts of the world together to collaborate for literature.
